How we rank stones

Why one stone comes before another in your results, in plain words.

Last updated 8 October 2026

No supplier can pay to be shown higher. There are no paid or sponsored places in our results, and the “Verified” label does not change the order.

Photo search

When you search with a photo, these decide the order, most important first:

  • How closely it looks like your photo. We compare your photo with the slab photos of stone in stock: colour, veining and pattern. This counts far more than anything else. Stones that look the same, or nearly the same, are shown first as Best matches; the rest follow as Similar looks. A slab in a clearly different colour is moved down.
  • Where the stone is. If you chose a city or “Near me” before the search, we show stock in those places. You can switch to all of India in one tap.
  • In stock. Stone marked in stock counts for more than limited stock, and limited stock for more than stone on order.
  • Recently updated. Stock the supplier listed or updated recently counts for more. Anything the supplier hasn’t updated for 30 days is not shown.
  • Real photos and complete details. Listings with real photos, sizes, thickness and finish filled in count a little more.

Search by name, colour or filters

When you type a search or use filters, these decide the order, most important first:

  • How well it matches your words. The stone’s name and trade names, common misspellings and Hindi words (“safed”, “kala”), and what the stone looks like.
  • Your filters and preferences. Filters you pick (colour, stone type, finish, use, thickness, city) are strict: only stones that match are shown. Things you type, like a colour or a use, count as preferences: stones that match them come first.
  • Where the stone is. When you name a city (“white marble in Udaipur”), stock there counts for more.
  • In stock. Stone marked in stock counts for more than limited stock, and limited stock for more than stone on order.
  • Recently updated. Stock the supplier listed or updated recently counts for more. Anything not updated for 30 days is not shown.
  • Real photos and complete details. Listings with real photos, sizes, thickness, finish and a description count a little more.

“Best match” is the order above. You can sort by “Recently updated”, “Most stock” or “Newly listed” instead.

Rules for every search

  • In “Best match” order, each further stone from the same supplier counts a little less, so one supplier can’t fill the page.
  • Sold stone, and stone the supplier no longer lists, is not shown.
  • Tiles never appear in marble and granite results.
  • When nothing matches everything you asked for, we loosen the search one step at a time and tell you what we loosened.
